Flying Prop Drone Hardware Engineer

Who are we hiring?

The Sphere Show Systems Technology team is expanding our capabilities by developing in-house drone technologies for our innovative shows. We are seeking an Aero/Hardware Engineer with expertise in designing, assembling, and fabricating the hardware required for state-of-the-art drones and ornithopters. This role is essential for constructing the physical aspects of our drones, from structural design to propulsion systems and material selection.

What will you do?

  • Design and engineer the structural and mechanical components of drones and ornithopters, optimizing for performance and reliability.
  • Develop propulsion systems tailored to specific operational requirements of show drones.
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques to ensure the drones’ longevity and functionality.
  • Oversee the assembly and fabrication process, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware designs with electronic and control systems.
  • Conduct stress tests and simulations to validate designs under various conditions.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in aerospace technology to apply innovative solutions.
  • Document design processes and create maintenance and operation manuals for drone hardware.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aerospace or mechanical engineering with a focus on drone technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and fabrication of complex mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics, materials science, and structural analysis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members and document work effectively.

Special Requirements

  • May require travel to test sites or manufacturing facilities.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours during critical production phases.

Pay Range
$118,000$170,000 USD
