Sphere is a next generation entertainment venue, rooted in art and science with the mission to bring wonder to the world. The immersive venue in Las Vegas showcases events, brand activations, artist residencies and other forms of entertainment with A-list talent.
We are looking for a Music Supervisor who will oversee the selection, acquisition, and integration of music to the world’s most dynamic canvas – Sphere. In this role, you will help create breathtaking experiences for the Exosphere, atrium and Media Plane, Sphere’s state of the art 16K immersive screen, as well as digital content, and promotional materials. This role involves managing licensing agreements and ensuring that the music aligns with the studio’s artistic vision and legal requirements.
As an integral member of our team, you’ll collaborate with Creative Directors and Visual Artists to bring concepts to life through artistic experiences that inspire audiences worldwide. The soundtracks you help select and create will elevate Sphere’s art programming, promotion for marquee experiences, live events, artist residencies and brand activations. Your music curation combined with artful and experiential design will shape unforgettable experiences for audiences both on-ground and around the world.
What will you do?
Music Selection and Integration
- Work with partner Music Production and Licensing Companies to curate and select music tracks that complement and enhance the studio’s content, including art programming, live event and brand content for on-ground experiences, digital media, and promotional materials
- Work with creative directors, producers, and editors to integrate music into projects, ensuring it aligns with the overall creative vision
Licensing and Legal Coordination
- Manage all aspects of music licensing, including negotiating rights and securing permissions for music use
- Ensure compliance with copyright laws, industry regulations and handle any related legal documentation and contracts
Collaboration with Creative Teams
- Collaborate with creative teams to understand their vision and provide recommendations for music that elevates the storytelling and audience engagement
- Attend production meetings and offer expertise on how music can enhance the content
Music Research and Curation
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging artists to provide fresh and relevant music selection and options
- Build and maintain a diverse library of music tracks and sources, including established and emerging artists
Vendor and Artist Relationships
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with music publishers, record labels, and independent artists
- Negotiate deals and contracts with music vendors and talent, ensuring favorable terms for the studio
Project Management
- Oversee the music supervision process from initial selection through final integration, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project schedules
- Coordinate with internal teams to manage deadlines and address any issues related to music use
Budget Management
- Work within allocated budgets for music licensing and acquisition
- Monitor and manage costs associated with music supervision, ensuring efficient use of resources
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of music licenses, agreements, and usage
- Prepare and present reports on music-related activities, including budget status and licensing updates, to senior management
What do you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Business, Music Production, Film/Television Production, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred
- Proven experience (5+ years) as a Music Supervisor or in a similar role within the entertainment industry
- In-depth knowledge of music licensing, copyright laws, and industry standards
- Strong understanding of music genres, trends, and how music can impact storytelling
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in music management software and tools
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Creative and innovative thinker with a passion for music and its role in content creation
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Collaborative team player with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships
- Adaptable and resilient in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
