Systems Technician

Who are we hiring?

The Systems Technician role will be joining the growing Sphere Studios team Based in Burbank, California. This role will include developing preventative maintenance plans, testing procedures and qualitative assurance on cutting edge AV systems and game engines.  The role will liaise with several internal departments and external vendors to drive the quality and performance of our AV systems in venues and studios. The ideal candidate will excel at supporting and maintaining systems while also focusing on documentation and training other internal team members.

What will you do?

  • Assist in defining and overseeing playback system design and testing project scopes.
  • Provide technical solutions and clear plans as well as provide guidance for regular maintenance on AV hardware
  • Plan and execute any system modifications required for major and novel events.  Provide onsite day-of-event support as required.
  • Develop working documents for maintenance, best practices, and standard operating procedures
  • Provide qualitative analysis on equipment to ensure the highest quality of performance
  • Engineering Support of AV equipment for all types of Video equipment used in the Sphere Studios environment.
  • Must be flexible with work hours; this role performs on “Production Time” with the potential for hours taking place outside of the traditional 9-5, including nights, weekend, and holidays.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Degree in engineering, computer science, theatre design, interactive arts, or equivalent work experience.
  • 12+ years of experience as a Video Engineer, Systems Engineer, or similar role 
  • 5+ years live production experience.
  • Expert-level experience designing or operating mission-critical systems (for international broadcast, military control rooms, etc.)
  • Experience with large format multi-processor systems is a must.
  • Must have operational and engineering experience with video media servers – 7thSense (preferred), Disguise, Hippo, or Pandora.
  • Experience working with game engines, Unreal preferred.
  • Experience with building computers and replacing computer hardware components.
  • Experience with network attached storage and high bandwidth network tuning.
  • Experience with Notch, Unreal, Touch Designer or Unity is preferred.
  • Experience with LED Screens and processing systems.
  • Show Control Programming experience is encouraged.
  • Knowledge of video routing systems, broadcast solutions, and AV IT networking.
  • Experience and working knowledge of codecs and image sequences such as NotchLC, .7th, dpx,ProRes, HAP.
  • Ability to write technical SOPs, Workflow charts, Line drawings, Operating Check Lists
  • A confident, professional, and persuasive communication style with senior leaders and team members.
  • A passion for creative problem-solving and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to remain flexible and calm in high-pressure situations.

Special Requirements

  • Productions and rehearsals often include working non standard hours and involve travel as needed

Pay Range
$96,000$160,000 USD
