Who are we hiring?

The Digital 2D Supervisor directs a team to develop groundbreaking techniques to stitch, clean up, and integrate VFX and motion graphics into high frame rate content at extremely large resolutions. This is a hands-on role requiring task delegation, direct oversight of technical approach, detailed feedback, and assistance to assure the highest quality work from every member of the compositing, concept, and 2D teams.

This position requires a leader who can help recruit and supervise the above teams while also interfacing with other departments and supervisors at Sphere Studios to develop and refine the internal workflows, processes, and standards of the Studio. Also required would be supervision of some outside vendors to guide their process and integrate their efforts with those happening in parallel in LA.

What will you do?

  • Lead and mentor a team of compositors and 2D digital artists integrating a variety of live action and 3D/CG elements at very high resolution and quality.
  • Establish technical approach, provide compositing templates, and directly oversee all 2D work to assure that it adheres to the established processes and meets required quality.
  • Work closely with the Studio VFX Supervisor, other Departmental Supervisors and Production Management to bid and schedule 2D work.
  • Assist in creating requirements, product descriptions, and documentation for pipeline tools, workflows, protocols, and specifications for working, monitoring, reviewing, and delivering content that meets Sphere’s color and resolution requirements.
  • Supervise work contracted out to 3rd party vendors to maintain Sphere’s specifications and requirements.
  • Actively participate in recruiting world-class freelance and staff compositors.
  • Provide mentoring, individual training, performance reviews, and professional guidance to all members of the compositing team.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Deep understanding of high-end VFX, motion graphics, and 2D processes and pipeline.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in compositing as a lead or supervisor across a wide variety of content including film, advertising, broadcast episodic and commercials.
  • Expert user of Nuke, plus working knowledge of other compositing software and tools such as Mistika, PTGUI, After Effects, and various 360º/180º plugins and tools.
  • Understanding of 3D processes, and experience integrating 3D elements.
  • Proven artist management and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of AI toolsets and best methods to integrate into pipeline tools.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, take criticism, and work under high pressure with tight deadlines while maintaining team cohesion.
