Who are we hiring?

Sphere Studios is looking for a Senior Manager, Technical Operations will oversee all technical logistics for Sphere Studios related to Sphere Experiences, live music residencies and corporate events that utilize the various platforms, tools and assets within Big Dome, Sphere Studios’ state-of-the-art screening, programming and test facility anchored by a 16K display that is a ¼ scale version of the media plane at Sphere in Las Vegas. This includes, but is not limited to Audio, Video, Networking, Broadcast, Rigging, Staging Scenic and Lighting. The role will also oversee Sphere Studios’ Playback Operations team and is based in Burbank, CA at Big Dome.

What will you do?

  • Collaborate with Sphere Studios’ Production, Post-Production and VFX teams as well as Sphere’s Technical Production department to communicate technical specifications of Sphere systems, equipment and infrastructure accurately to incoming productions, both internally and externally.
  • Manage and guide Playback Operations, a team of individual operators across a variety of media planes and technical sites.
  • Provide operational and execution guidance on Technical Design and Planning for all aspects of assigned shows within Sphere Studios. This includes collaboration with all departments including video playback, audio systems, broadcast, rigging, automation, production, and architectural lighting.
  • Operate, maintain and safeguard the technical assets of Sphere Studios, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, video, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities – ensuring that each is used in adherence to Sphere brand standards.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of SOPs / workflows for the Playback Operations team.
  • Work with departments across Sphere Studios to implement new workflows and strategies to improve the overall client experience at Sphere Studios.
  • Review design proposals and coordinate the set up and advancement of lighting, video and sound systems for projects that utilize Sphere Studios production systems.
  • Determine necessary Big Dome technical support, such as video, lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events, residencies, and Sphere Experiences programmed at Sphere Studios.
  • Monitor the installation of outside equipment at Big Dome (e.g. lighting, sound, video, networking and rigging equipment) and coordinate with Sphere Studios departments regarding the integration of any guest systems.
  • Oversee all technical rehearsals and pre-programming at Sphere Studios
  • Assist Sphere’s Venue Technical Director in supporting all technical aspects of the show.

What do you need to succeed?

  • High-level expertise in all areas of entertainment production technology (e.g. video playback and LED surfaces, networking systems, lighting systems, audio systems, rigging systems, and automation).
  • 8+ years of experience working in live event production, with a preference given to a strong video background.
  • Proven track record of successfully navigating a complex, fast-paced, and diverse environment, preferably in a live event venue with experience managing a team.
  • Strong technical knowledge of production systems including but not limited to Disguise, 7thSense, MA, QSYS, Dante, Ravenna and Mellanox.
  • Working knowledge of advanced network production protocols, including ST 2110.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks preferred.
  • Exceptional and holistic interpersonal, communication and leadership skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization with a high level of confidence, diplomacy and integrity.
  • Commitment to delivering and executing a high-quality service experience for both internal and external clients, ensuring a deep knowledge and understanding of the needs, priorities and expectations of all stakeholders.
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills, ensuring and coordinating timely and accurate execution of all deliverables.
  • Demonstrates a consistent solution and results-based mindset with a strong sense of accountability while being a trusted “go-to” leader.
  • Ability to be resilient, adaptable, and confident in high pressure environments while navigating through continual change.

Special Requirements of the Role:

  • Extensive standing, walking, keyboard usage and general administrative duties.
  • Occasional travel to NY or Las Vegas (<10%).
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights and holidays.

Pay Range
$113,000$175,000 USD
