Who are we hiring?
MSG Sphere Studios is looking for an operations-oriented Technical Project Manager to join a growing post-production department based in Los Angeles. This TPM will be working under the VP of Production Technology to wrangle the day-to-day support of technology projects engaging with multiple studio technical teams: Data IO, QC, Deliverables, Render Management, Pipeline and Production Support.
Sphere requires an extreme level of integration between disciplines, as such the LA Post-Production team is looking for a highly organized problem-solver with broad experience across multiple aspects of post-production and Visual Effects.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with internal tools teams, external partners, and Post/VFX stakeholders to evaluate and implement technical solutions, manage and prioritize feature development based on operational feedback, and ensure visibility and accountability of technical requests from intake through resolution.
- Drive the execution of complex technical projects that support Sphere’s proprietary post-production workflows as they relate to pipeline development, automation, and workflow optimization.
- Define scope, manage sprints and resources, and maintain detailed project plans while adapting as creative and technical needs evolve
- Act as a key operational link between Production, Technical Directors, Pipeline Developers, VFX, Post teams, Infosecurity, and Studio Technology groups to triage issues, escalate blockers, track progress, and maintain consistency across departments.
- Support daily production needs by coordinating with Sphere’s Production Support team to resolve issues efficiently, managing support ticket workflows through Jira Service Management to ensure timely escalation and resolution.
- Support deployment of new tools and pipeline features to artists and production staff. Gather feedback and communicate actionable insights back to development teams.
- Create and maintain documentation, dashboards, and reports using tools like ShotGrid, Jira, Confluence, CODA, and internal systems to track project health, support resource planning, and forecast task progress and delivery timelines.
- Initiate cross functional meetings, take clear notes with action items, and ensure clear and timely communication across all stakeholders—including developers, artists, producers, and studio leadership.
- Support teams to synchronize workflows and ensure cross-functional alignment by proactively managing interdependencies across departments and identifying technical blockers early to maintain production momentum.
- Support templatized budgeting/actuals for content workflows, and cost tracking for technical projects, collaborating with IT, Procurement, and Finance on vendor onboarding, purchase tracking, and procurement of assets.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Technical Project Manager, Pipeline Producer, or similar role in a high-end VFX, animation, or post-production studio.
- Deep familiarity with VFX production workflows, file formats/codecs, color pipelines, and industry-standard tools such as Nuke, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Cloud, and DCC integrations.
- Proven experience with ShotGrid (Flow Production Tracking), Confluence and Jira Service Management for technical support and development workflow.
- Hands-on experience with Agile, Scrum, and sprint planning methodologies in a technical environment.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and creative disciplines.
- A calm, solutions-oriented mindset; comfortable working under pressure with multiple stakeholders and evolving priorities.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to synthesize information and proactively identify risks or inefficiencies.
- Familiarity with pipeline automation, render farm management, or asset management systems, previous hands-on experience as a coordinator, pipeline TD, or support engineer a plus
